The ambassador class track at the Ballroom is for advanced dancers who want to supplement their own practice with in-class instruction, leadership opportunities, service to the community, and group feedback. The cost of the class is both monetary and service-based. The class is invite only.
Service Costs (If you don’t live in Baltimore, you can do this stuff in your home scene when that makes more sense for you):
Monthly:
Come to the beginning of a dance (meaning 9pm or earlier) at least 3 times/month.
Dance with at least 3 beginners at each dance you attend (particularly in the first hour after the drop in so the night starts with energy). Help them have a good time, meet people, and learn the norms of the space.
Set goals for your own dancing and dance related social roles.
Fill out a monthly report (see more info lower in this email).
Ongoing, less strict by month:
Dance with people who intimidate you, both for the sake of your dancing, and for the sake of breaking others of the hierarchical nonsense.
Find ways to practice that don’t rely on the Ballroom.
Involve newcomers socially.
Pay attention to the vibes of the room at dances and help improve it.
Move around the room
Give the DJs (kind but specific) feedback
Disrupt negative cliques (talk to Sarah if you need ideas)
Lead Sunday practice
Take on social leadership roles (like organizing meet ups)
