Do you wish you knew what to do when a lovely slow jazz ballad plays? Do you know some Balboa, but haven’t tried any Slow Balboa yet? Have you learned some Slow Bal, but want a refresher before Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend? Then this workshop is for you! While the workshop will be based in the historical development of the dance, we will incorporate more modern ideas too. Our goal is to give you the tools to build your own Slow Balboa dancing and enjoy yourself on the social dance floor.
October 24th, 12-4:30pm. Some swing dance experience required (specifically dancing in a close hold), but you don’t need to have a lot of prior balboa experience.

Amanda's Gerkin:
Amanda is always captivated by the siren’s call of a slow swinging tune. Amanda is ever-exploring Balboa dancing, including Slow Balboa, as a social dancer, teacher, choreographer, and competitor. In addition to supporting her local community through practices and classes, she competes in Balboa & Slow Balboa nationally. She teaches weekly Balboa classes through her organization, Capital City Shuffle, with David Lee. Amanda is a founder and organizer of Stardust Slow Balboa Weekend (coming up in November!). Her mission is for every Balboa dancer to have Slow Balboa in their repertoire!
David Lee:
David has been passionate about swing dancing since he first started in 2006 and has yet to meet a dance he doesn’t love. He enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, St. Louis Shag, Charleston, and numerous other swing dances with every person he meets. He is known for his musicality and creativity on the dance floor, and in the classroom he excels at breaking down mechanics in a way that is accessible to dancers of all levels and learning styles. His dance accomplishments include placements at All Balboa Weekend, the International Lindy Hop Championships, Lindy Focus, and Hot Rhythm Holiday, and he has also earned the distinction of Distinguished Fellow at The Balboa Experiment for his work there as a guest mentor. He teaches at his local venue, New Columbia Swing, in Washington, D.C., and has also taught at events nationally and internationally.
